Unionville, Berczy, and Wismer consistently produce Markham's top-ranked public schools. School catchments change over time and vary block by block — we map the exact boundaries before recommending any area to a buyer with school-age children.
Both are strong family neighbourhoods with excellent schools. Berczy has a slightly older housing stock (early 2000s), more of a community-events culture, and Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School. Wismer is newer, with cleaner streetscapes and marginally higher resale demand. Both are excellent — the right one depends on your priorities.
Cornell was purpose-built for walkability with its grid street plan and mixed-use design — it's Markham's closest thing to a walkable urban neighbourhood. Unionville's main street is also highly walkable for retail and restaurants. Markville has the best transit connectivity and retail access.
Greensborough is the standout — its central pond and trail network are genuinely beautiful. Cornell borders the Rouge Valley, one of the largest urban parks in North America. Angus Glen offers the open space and greenery of a golf-course community. Box Grove has the most breathing room of any neighbourhood in the city.
Unionville, without question. It's one of Ontario's most celebrated heritage districts — the main street has been largely preserved since the 1800s. If character and a sense of place matter to you as much as the home itself, Unionville is in a category of its own.
